Przyznam, że łatwiej jest wybrać nową płytę do słuchania, gdy jej okładka trafia w nasze gusta. Zupełnie inaczej było w przypadku debiutu GOLOD, ponieważ grafika prezentująca mini album całkowicie mnie odpychała, jednak postanowiłem że przesłucham ten materiał i jak się okazało, nie zawiodłem się na nim nawet przez chwilę. O projekcie nie ma zbyt wielu informacji w sieci, więc postanowiłem sobie zacytować wzmiankę ze strony artysty: "Golod to black metalowy projekt, który powstał w Toronto w Kanadzie jesienią 2019 roku. Zainspirowana głęboką introspekcją i mroczną historią ludzkości, muzyka ma na celu zniewolić, rzucić wyzwanie i pocieszyć słuchacza. Debiutancki mini album …to be Lost and Forgotten in Solitude to pierwsza propozycja starannie przygotowana przez jedynego członka zespołu, Holoda (udzielającego się też w HUSSAR). Album celebruje hartowanie duszy poprzez wystawienie na przeciwności losu".
…to be Lost and Forgotten in Solitude to zaledwie cztery utwory na krążku, o łącznym czasie wynoszącym ponad trzydzieści jeden minut. Jednak robią one sporo zamieszania, dzięki świetnie nagranym dźwiękom, które genialnie kreują obłędną atmosferę. Z jednej strony dostajemy surowy black metal, który ucieka w bardzo depresyjne rejony, a z drugiej jesteśmy atakowani bardzo chwytliwymi melodiami, które są jak światło w tunelu utkanym z nici nocy i bezgranicznej otchłani. To kolejna płyta, której okładka od początku mi jakoś nie leżała w guście artystycznym i po raz kolejny nie zawiodłem się decydując się na odsłuchanie tego krążka. Gitary mocno podkręcone efektem, który zniekształca sygnał, generują bardzo brudne i surowe brzmienie. Riffy oscylują wokół sekcji tremolo, ale nie brakuje tu również ciężkich uderzeń rytmicznych. Od gitar dostaniemy również bardzo melodyjne solówki, które z niesamowitą siłą wdzierają się w umysł słuchacza. Nie zabraknie również nieco akustycznego brzmienia, jednak nie jest to zabieg, który by dominował, a jedynie urozmaica całość. Kolejnych, pięknych melodii dodają bardzo przemyślane partie klawiszowe i to chyba one są na tym albumie głównym nośnikiem melodii. Czasami wypełniają tło, ale często wysuwają się bardziej do przodu. Perkusja, chociaż jak dla mnie może nieco za cicho nagrana, to świetnie łupie przejścia na beczkach z przyjemnym niskim tonem. Jak na dość surowe wykonanie, to całkiem nieźle zarejestrowano blachy, co jest całkiem miłym zaskoczeniem. Wokal to potężny black metalowy skrzek, połączony często z wściekłym krzykiem, ale nie brakuje mu również depresyjnych emocji. Mocna rzecz, zapoznajcie się z tym projektem.

I must admit that it is easier to choose a new album to listen to, when its cover hits our taste. It was completely different in the case of GOLOD's debut, because the graphics presenting the mini album totally repulsed me, but I decided to listen to this material and as it turned out, I was not disappointed even for a moment. There is not much information about the project on the net, so I decided to quote a note from the artist's website: "Golod is a black metal project formed in Toronto, Canada in the fall of 2019. Inspired by deep introspection and the dark history of humanity, the music aims to ensnare, challenge, and comfort the listener. The debut mini album ...to be Lost and Forgotten in Solitude is the first offering carefully crafted by the band's sole member, Holod (also contributing to HUSSAR). The album celebrates the hardening of the soul through exposure to adversity."
...to be Lost and Forgotten in Solitude is only four songs on the disc, with a total running time of over thirty-one minutes. However, they make a lot of fuss, thanks to the perfectly recorded sounds, which brilliantly create an insane atmosphere. On the one hand we get raw black metal, which escapes into very depressive regions, and on the other hand we are attacked with very catchy melodies, which are like a light in the tunnel woven from the threads of night and boundless abyss. This is another album, whose cover art somehow did not suit my artistic taste from the beginning and once again I was not disappointed deciding to listen to this album. Guitars heavily tweaked with the effect that distorts the signal, generate a very dirty and harsh sound. Riffs oscillate around the tremolo section, but there are also heavy rhythmic beats. From guitars we also get very melodic solos, which penetrate into listener's mind with incredible force. There is also a bit of acoustic sound, but it is not a treatment that would dominate, but only diversifies the whole. Other, beautiful melodies are added by very thoughtful keyboard parts, and they are probably the main carrier of melody on this album. Sometimes they fill in the background, but often they come more to the front. The drumming, while perhaps a bit too quietly recorded for me, does a great job of pealing the transitions on the drums with a nice low tone. For a fairly raw performance, the brass is recorded quite well, which is quite a pleasant surprise. The vocals are powerful black metal screeches, often combined with angry screams, but there is no shortage of depressive emotions either. Powerful stuff, get acquainted with this project.
