DOLDRUM to Amerykański projekt, który debiutuje w tym roku dwu utworowym demem "The Knocking". Ani poprzednie zespoły muzyków, ani nawet istnienie tego projektu nie istniało w mojej świadomości, a tu znowu Bandcamp dopomógł wykopać. DOLDRUM swoje początki ma właśnie w 2020 roku i na dobrą sprawę więcej faktów nie potrafię przytoczyć. Więc bez zbędnego przedłużania wstępu, zapraszam do poniższej recenzji.
Jak już wspomniałem, mamy tutaj dwa utwory, a całość zamyka się w niecałych siedemnastu minutach. Być może i krótki materiał, ale za to jaki!! Black Metal jaki podał nam na talerzu DOLDRUM ma formę nieco eksperymentalną, jednakże mój umysł tradycjonalisty w materii Black Metalu jak najbardziej dopuszcza to co słyszę i co więcej, pochłania mnie bez powrotu. DOLDRUM is an American project, which debuts this year with two track demo "The Knocking". Neither previous bands of musicians nor even the existence of this project lived in my consciousness, and here again Bandcamp helped to dig it out. DOLDRUM has its beginnings in 2020 and I can't give you any more facts. So, without prolonging the introduction unnecessarily, I invite you to the following review.
As I have already mentioned, we have two songs here and the whole thing closes in almost seventeen minutes. Maybe a short material, but what a short material! Black Metal that was given to us on the DOLDRUM's plate is a bit experimental, but my mind of a traditionalist in the matter of Black Metal is as much as it allows what I hear and what's more, it absorbs me without returning. Well, the Americans gave their demo a strong 'dry' sound, which makes 'The Knocking' even more haunted music. Haunted music, which turns a kind of psychosis into an experience of listening, almost painting a landscape of dark mysticism. What deserves great distinction are the vocals - unusual, screaming but in pure voice form. There are also deviations from them, and the appearing growls or screaming voices knock the final nail into the coffin. The created atmosphere of the arrangement is achieved by intertwining almost obvious, simple ideas with those that are very schizophrenic, even not matching the Black Metal patch. The work of the guitars is really amazing, the number of riffs and ideas of combining them, unconventionality, all this deserves a deep appreciation of the DOLDRUM sounds. Throughout the entire mystery of the demo, we will hear clear bass guitar lines, which sometimes get into controversial arrangements adding a lot of Hell to the final picture of music. The percussion, seemingly simple, keeps us in control, but there are great accents and highlights of individual parts of these songs. The keys scrolling in the background creating only the background disarm the rest. Amazing atmosphere, phenomenal material - different and equally haunted at once.
