Drugi album PRIMORDIAL SERPENT, a pierwszy z jakim mi było dane się zetknąć, ukazał się w marcu tego roku. Obaj wydawcy co prawda wydali go w formie fizycznej nieco później, ale nie ma się tutaj czemu dziwić. Mając na uwadze mnogość wydawnictw w podziemiu Black czy Death Metalowym, obecnie jest to normalna sprawa. Projekt ten pochodzi z Kanady i ma na swoim koncie trzy pełne albumy i kilka pomniejszych wydawnictw. Geoff Coran, osoba odpowiedzialna za całokształt twórczy tegoż projektu nie próżnuje i od 2020 roku, tj. roku kiedy powstał projekt, wypluła w podziemie już 9 wydawnictw. Owszem, są tam jakieś single, ale jest też całkiem niezły split z kanadyjskim Hellmoon. A teraz czas na garść szczegółów z drugiego albumu "Ancient Myths and Legends".
Zapewne nikogo nie zdziwi fakt, że zacznę od słów - Ameryki tu nie odkryto. I właśnie w tym rzecz. Cała siła tego materiału drzemie w odkrywaniu na nowo gatunkowych korzeni i podaniu ich na własny sposób. PRIMORDIAL SERPENT czyni to bardzo dobrze. Odnoszę wrażenie, że stara Szwecja została tutaj wykopana i oddano jej hołd, potężny ukłon w stronę takich dzieł jak choćby 'Storm of the Light's Bane' autorstwa Dissection. Projekt jednak się tu nie zatrzymuje, albowiem dorzuca tu również echa starej Norwegii a'la dema Enslaved i taka mikstura gwarantuje naprawdę konkretną muzykę. Wielka szkoda, że nie został bardziej zauważony przez fanów. Wartym uwagi elementem jest tutaj atmosfera, która zieje chłodem i cmentarną zarazą. Jest w tym wydawnictwie coś unikalnego, coś co chwyta moją duszę i nie pozwala odstąpić mej uwadze nawet na moment. Riffy gitar są proste, często piłowane akordami by następnie przechodzić w tremolo i świetną melodykę. To właśnie ona rwie zmysły swą ostrością i oczarowuje. Pojawiają się też partie gitar bez przesterowania, akustycznych. Naprawdę nieźle się to wszystko zazębia i nie ma żadnych zgrzytów czy nieporozumień w trakcie odsłuchu. Linie basu równie dobrze zarysowują dynamikę, a partie automatu perkusyjnego nie rażą i nie dominują nad resztą instrumentów. Na koniec wokale, bardzo charakterne i świetnie pasujące do nordyckiej tematyki jaką znajdziemy w lirykach na "Ancient Myths and Legends". Dynamika utworów zmienia się i co ważne PRIMORDIAL SERPENT brzmi dobrze zarówno w wolnych partiach jak i tych szybszych. Zdecydowanie nie usłyszymy blastów, ale to i lepiej. Mam wrażenie, że ściana dźwięku zachwiałaby odbiór muzyki. Tak czy inaczej - warto posłuchać tego materiału i zdobyć sztukę do własnej kolekcji.

The second album of PRIMORDIAL SERPENT, and the first one I had a chance to get in touch with, was released in March this year. Both labels released it in physical form a bit later, but it's no surprise. Considering the multitude of releases in the Black or Death Metal underground, this is now a normal thing. The project hails from Canada and has three full albums and several minor releases to its credit. Geoff Coran, the person responsible for the whole creative process of this project does not idle and since 2020, the year when the project was founded, has already spit out 9 releases in the underground. Yes, there are some singles, but there is also a pretty good split with Canadian Hellmoon. And now it's time for some details from the second album "Ancient Myths and Legends".
Probably nobody will be surprised by the fact that I'll start with the words - there's no discovery here. And that's the point. The whole essence of this material lies in rediscovering genre roots and serving them up in your own way. PRIMORDIAL SERPENT does it very well. I have an impression that old Sweden has been dug out and paid homage to here, a powerful tribute to such works as 'Storm of the Light's Bane' by Dissection. The project doesn't stop here, though, as it also throws in echoes of old Norway a'la Enslaved demos, and such a mixture guarantees really solid music. It's a great pity that it wasn't noticed more by the fans. The noteworthy element here is the atmosphere, which oozes coldness and cemetery pestilence. There is something unique in this release, something that grabs my soul and does not let me go away even for a moment. Guitar riffs are simple, often sawed with chords to then change into tremolo and great melodics. It's the melody that rouses the senses with its sharpness and enchants. There are also parts of guitars without distortion, acoustic. It all interlocks really well and there are no gibberish or misunderstandings during the listening. The bass lines outline the dynamics just as well and the drum machine parts do not glaringly dominate over the rest of the instruments. Finally the vocals, very distinctive and perfectly fitting to the Nordic theme that we find in the lyrics on "Ancient Myths and Legends". The dynamics of the tracks changes and what's important, PRIMORDIAL SERPENT sounds good both in slower parts and in faster ones. We definitely won't hear any blasts, but it's better that way. I have an impression that a wall of sound would shake the perception of music. Anyway - it's worth listening to this material and getting a piece for your own collection.
