Jakiś czas temu pisaliśmy tu o EVILFEAST i myślę, że jakoś znacząco nie trzeba przedstawiać tego projektu szerszemu gronu. Pamiętam jak wychodziły pierwsze materiały i co niektóre osoby unikały tych wydawnictw, z resztą i dzisiaj niektórzy nie rozumieją tego zachwytu nad tym polskim black metalowym projektem. Rok temu ukazał się split z UUNTAR, a w tym roku wyszedł kolejny - tym razem ze szwedzkim zespołem GNIPAHÅLAN. Może i szału nie będzie pod względem ilości utworów, ale zapewniam, że krótko nie trwa ten materiał. Co do GNIPAHÅLAN - jest to dwuosobowy zespół ze Szwecji, który zaistniał wraz z pierwszymi wydawnictwami w 2014 roku. W dyskografii posiada jedenaście pozycji i w tym jeden album. Muzycy udzielają się również w wielu innych zespołach, a jak lubicie surowe i atmosferyczne brzmienia, to pewnie wystarczy Wam nazwa BEKËTH NEXËHMÜ w której udziela się Swartadauþuz. Początek utworu jest agresywny i czuć tu srogą zimą z temperaturą znacznie poniżej zera. Klawisze są bardzo silnym nośnikiem dla melodii. Gdy riffy gitar niosą agresję, to syntezatory przynoszą zimno i piękno pierwotnej natury, ale niosą również sporą dawkę melancholii i mistycznej ekspresji. Wokal - jak to w poprzednich dokonaniach projektu - bardzo wyrazisty, skrzekliwy i również rozpoznawalny, tak jak i muzyka. Czuć w nim nieprzenikniony mrok wypełniony zimnem. Pomimo tego, że jest skrzekliwy i dość obskurny, to niesie melodię, przez co jest przyswajalny i raczej bez trudu wpada w ucho. Jeżeli lubicie atmosferyczny black metal, to z pewnością i to wydawnictwo przypadnie Wam do gustu, zatem zachęcam zapoznać się z tym materiałem.

Some time ago we wrote here about EVILFEAST and I think there's no need to introduce this project to a wider audience. I remember when the first materials were released and some people avoided them, even today some people don't understand this admiration for this Polish black metal project. A year ago the split with UUNTAR came out, and this year another one - this time with the Swedish band GNIPAHÅLAN. Maybe it won't be crazy as far as the number of tracks is concerned, but I assure you that the material is not short. As for GNIPAHÅLAN - it's a two-man band from Sweden that came into existence with their first releases in 2014. It has eleven items in its discography and includes one album. The musicians also contribute to many other bands, and if you like raw and atmospheric sounds, the name BEKËTH NEXËHMÜ in which Swartadauþuz contributes is probably enough for you. That is all in the introduction, so let us move on to the review.
Storm av rå Nordisk Dödskonst del. II / Black Witchcraft over Carpathia is a split that has been spit out to the light of day thanks to Amor Fati Productions, and as I mentioned in the introduction it is somehow not particularly rich in tracks, as each of the projects recorded only one. However, the length of the whole material is almost thirty four minutes. The beginning belongs to GNIPAHÅLAN and from the very beginning it is dark and feels cold. It's also raw, but you can't accuse the music production of anything wrong. You can hear all the instruments perfectly and the effects of stereophonic changes make it a pleasure to listen to. Apart from those positive aspects, there is a lot of anxiety in this track, which is watered with a noble, cold atmosphere. Guitar riffs dominate the tremolo section, reaching back to the early nineties, when black metal was reaching its peak of popularity (although not always because of the music). The drums are very expressive, like the beating heart of a wild creature. The deep sound is almost hypnotic and addictive. The vocals complement these sounds with their edginess. It is a black metal screech, very throaty and memorable. but it can also surprise with clean parts. As for the song EVILFEAST, I have no doubt that it fits very well to the album Lost Horizons of Wisdom and that's what I find interesting, because I always liked this album and I keep coming back to it. The beginning of the track is aggressive and feels like a harsh winter with temperatures far below zero. The tempo changes jump between medium and slow speeds, which serves the dynamics as well as the sound itself very well. Guitar riffs are maintained in both tremolo and rhythm section, where chords are like strong blows on the head with an iron axe. The melodies seem to create themselves and although there are some similarities to the bands that ignited the genre that is black metal, EVILFEAST have developed their own sound that cannot be confused with any other. Keyboards are a very strong carrier for melodies. While guitar riffs bring aggression, synths bring coldness and beauty of primeval nature, but also a large dose of melancholy and mystic expression. Vocals - as in the previous achievements of the project - are very expressive, shrill and also recognizable, just like the music. It feels impenetrable darkness filled with cold. Despite the fact that it is noisy and rather obscure, it carries a melody, which makes it digestible and easy on the ear. If you like atmospheric black metal, this release will surely appeal to you as well, so I encourage you to familiarize yourself with this material.
