Całkiem niedawno, przeglądając zasoby Internetu, natrafiłem na całkiem dobry materiał demo wypluty przez projekt o nazwie WINTER LANTERN. Za tym projektem stoi jedna persona, a mianowicie jest nią Carmilla II Dracul. Ten zimny i odrażający projekt powstał raczej niedawno, ponieważ swoją obecność na scenie zaznaczył w 2020 roku wypluwając na światło dzienne pierwsze demo. Obecnie w dyskografii znajdują się trzy dema, a ja zacieram już dłonie by doczekać następnego wydawnictwa. Tymczasem zapraszam do poniższej recenzji najnowszego demo - Festering Vampirism, które ukazało się w dość niskim limicie.
Festering Vampirism to trzecie już demo na koncie WINTER LANTERN. Ten materiał zawiera osiem utworów, które łącznie trwają blisko pół godziny. to dość prosty black metal z korzeniami sięgającymi do wczesnych lat dziewięćdziesiątym. Nienawistne riffy zostały okraszone klawiszami, które melodię czerpią z dark ambientu. Dzięki takiemu połączeniu otrzymujemy niezwykle ciekawą, pełną mroku, zimna i śmierci atmosferę. Tempa, jakie zostały tu zastosowane są dość mocno zróżnicowane bowiem dostajemy powolne, bardzo mięsiste prędkości, by za chwilę wskoczyć w średnie i niepostrzeżenie w szybkie partie. Co do samego brzmienia, to mamy tu do czynienia z surową muzyką, która chłoszcze po ryju z wielką agresją, co siłą rzeczy sprawia, że długo nie zapomnimy o tym materiale. Chociaż riffy gitar wydają się dość banalnie proste, to należy zwrócić uwagę na to, że black metal od dawna oscylował wokół prostych aranżacji i całkiem dobrze mu to wychodziło. Zyskiwał na obskurności i odpychał od siebie przeciętnych słuchaczy metalu, skupiając jedynie niewielką garstkę maniaków tych chorych dźwięków. Riffy w szybszych partiach to przeważnie tremolo, a w wolniejszych postawiono szerzej na sekcję rytmiczną, co dodaje mroku i atmosfery wypełnionej procesem rozkładu. Gitara basowa jest dobrze słyszalna w wolniejszych momentach. Gdy tempo przyśpiesza to jednak gdzieś umyka bas, pozostając za kurtyną dźwięków pochodzących z innych instrumentów. Perkusja jest świetnie nagrana, pomimo surowości muzyki, to słychać że dobrze wypadła ścieżka tego instrumentu. Nie wychyla się on do przodu, ani nie pozostaje w tyle. Doskonale radzi sobie pomiędzy innymi dźwiękami. Do tego te zajebiste przejścia sprawiają, że przyjemnie się tego słucha. Klawisze łagodzą nieco szorstkie, black metalowe riffy, wywierając nacisk na grobową atmosferę. Doskonałe połączenie ostrych i łagodnych dźwięków sprawia, że materiał nie znudzi się zbyt szybko i będzie jeszcze nie jeden raz gościł w odtwarzaczu. Wokal nie należy do zbyt przyjemnych. To skrzek typowy dla black metalu, gdzie tekst jest wykrzykiwany do mikrofonu zbliżonego do ust. Z pewnością nie domyśliłbym się że za ten głos odpowiedzialna jest kobieta, gdybym wcześniej nie poczytał informacji na temat tego projektu. Myślę, że warto sprawdzić ten materiał, więc jak będzie okazja by go kupić, to nie zastanawiajcie się, bo nie ma tego dużo, no chyba że lubicie cyfrowe kopie to w sieci na pewno znajdziecie.

Quite recently, browsing through the Internet resources, I came across quite a good demo material spit out by a project called WINTER LANTERN. There is one person behind this project, and that is Carmilla II Dracul. This cold and repulsive project came into being rather recently, as it marked its presence on the scene in 2020 by spitting out its first demo. Currently, in the discography there are three demos, and I'm already rubbing my hands to wait for the next release. In the meantime I invite you to a review of the newest demo - Festering Vampirism, which was released in a rather low limit.
Festering Vampirism is the third demo on WINTER LANTERN's account. This material contains eight tracks that total nearly half an hour. it's pretty straightforward black metal with roots going back to the early nineties. Hateful riffs are laced with keyboards, which melody is drawn from dark ambient. Thanks to this combination we get very interesting, full of darkness, cold and death atmosphere. Tempos, which have been used here, are quite varied, because we get slow, very meaty speeds, to jump into medium ones and then imperceptibly into fast parts. As far as the sound itself is concerned, we are dealing here with the raw music, which beats on the face with great aggression, making us not forget about this material for a long time. Although the guitar riffs seem to be rather trivial, it should be noted that black metal has long oscillated around simple arrangements and it worked quite well for it. It gained in edginess and repelled the average metal listener, bringing together only a small handful of maniacs of these sick sounds. The riffs in the faster parts are mostly tremolo, while the slower parts rely more extensively on the rhythm section, which adds to the darkness and atmosphere filled with the process of decay. The bass guitar is well heard in the slower moments. When the tempo speeds up, however, the bass escapes somewhere, remaining behind the curtain of sounds coming from other instruments. The drums are well recorded, despite the harshness of the music, you can hear that the track of this instrument was well done. It neither leans forward nor lags behind. It handles between the other sounds perfectly. Plus those awesome transitions make it a pleasure to listen to. The keyboards soften the rough black metal riffs a bit, putting pressure on the sepulchral atmosphere. A perfect combination of harsh and soft sounds makes the material not get boring too fast and will be in your player more than once. Vocals are not very pleasant. It's a typical black metal screech, where the lyrics are shouted into a microphone close to the mouth. I certainly wouldn't have guessed that a woman is responsible for this voice, if I hadn't read some information about this project before. I think it's worth checking out this material, so if you get a chance to buy it, don't hesitate, because there isn't much of it, unless you like digital copies, then you will surely find it online.
