Digital, self-released, EP 2021

Całkowicie mi obcy projekt wyskoczył w propozycjach do odsłuchu, kiedy to szperałem w czeluściach platformy Bandcamp. I od razu się przyznaję (zapewne nie pierwszy raz o tym piszę) - nie jestem zwolennikiem cyfrowej formy wydawnictw. Uważam, że aby w pełni pojąć muzykę należy obcować z nią na odpowiednim poziomie skupienia i trzymając fizyczny nośnik w dłoniach. Okładka, teksty, obrazy, graficzny layout wydawnictwa - te wszystkie elementy dają pełen obraz tego, co stworzył i chciał przekazać dany muzyk. Niestety, tak jak w przypadku TOTENRITUAL nie jest mi dane doświadczyć tegoż rytuału i ratuję się jedyną dostępną formą - wydawnictwem cyfrowym. Zanim ukazała się opisywana tutaj EPka, TOTENRITUAL wydał dwa dema, jednego singla i właśnie "Through Siedge and Attrition".
Zacznę może w ten sposób - coraz częściej wykorzystywany w projektach jednoosobowych automat perkusyjny ogranicza potencjał danego wydawnictwa. Nie zrozumcie mnie źle, ale uważam, że EPka zyskałaby o wiele, wiele więcej będąc nagraną z żywym perkusistą. Ścieżki automatu zdecydowanie są ułożone z bardzo dobrym zamysłem, ale wciąż, to tylko automat. Co by jednak nie jęczeć nad tym jednym z elementów - który jak mówiłem jest dobry i mimo wszystko ciągnąć tą twórczość w dół - zobaczmy co się dzieje z resztą instrumentów. Ciekawe riffy, które jak dla mnie nie są aż tak oczywiste by nazwać je wyłącznie twórczością Black Metalową. Znajdziemy tu trochę Death Metalu. Zabieg wymieszania tych stylistyk, być może niezamierzony, pozwala wydobyć z TOTENRITUAL jeszcze większy mrok i absolutną zgniliznę. No i solówki, słychać że obeznanie z gitarą nie jest Krigsherre obce. Dynamika utworów potrafi zaskoczyć i przechodzić w mocno nieoczekiwanych momentach z hipnotycznej powolności w bestialskie blasty. I pomimo, że może się to wydawać chaotycznym zabiegiem, to nic bardziej mylnego. Obraz muzyki, nieludzki i totalnie fanatyczny, świetnie się uzupełnia. Kolejnym zadziwiającym elementem są wokale, które szczerze mówiąc zaskoczyły mnie. Ok, nieco monotonne, bez zmian barwy głosu, ale no cholera, to niemalże growle. "Through Siedge and Attrition" to 25 minut zamknięte w czterech utworach - bez nudy, bez udziwnień, ot cios prosto w mordę (chociaż pojawią się elementy bardziej melodyjne i podniosłe w atmosferze). Szczerze przyznam, że to zajebisty materiał i jak najbardziej polecam.

A completely unknown project jumped out at me in the suggestions for listening, when I was browsing in the depths of Bandcamp platform. And I have to admit right away (probably not for the first time I'm writing about it) - I'm not a fan of the digital form of publishing. I think that in order to fully understand the music one has to commune with it on the right level of concentration and holding the physical medium in one's hands. The cover, lyrics, images, graphic layout of the release - all these elements give the full image of what the musician created and wanted to convey. Unfortunately, as in the case of TOTENRITUAL, I am not able to experience this ritual and I have to make the most of the only available form - a digital release. Before the EP described here came out, TOTENRITUAL had released two demos, one single and "Through Siege and Attrition".
Let me start this way - the drum machine used more and more often in one-man projects limits the potential of a given release. Don't get me wrong, but I think the EP would benefit much, much more if recorded with a live drummer. The machine tracks are definitely laid out with a very good idea, but still, it's just an machine. However, rather than moaning over this one element - which as I said is good and pulls this creation down nonetheless - let's see what happens with the rest of the instruments. Interesting riffs, which, as for me, are not so obvious to be called exclusively Black Metal works. We can find here some Death Metal. Mixing these styles, maybe unintentionally, allows to bring out even more darkness and absolute rot from TOTENRITUAL. And then there are the solos, you can hear that Krigsherre is familiar with the guitar. The dynamics of the tracks can surprise and change in unexpected moments from hypnotic slowness to beastly blasts. And despite the fact that it may seem a chaotic procedure, it's nothing more mistaken. The image of the music, inhuman and totally fanatical, complements each other perfectly. Another amazing element are the vocals, which frankly surprised me. Ok, a bit monotonous, with no change in vocal tonality, but damn, they're almost growls. "Through Siege and Attrition" is 25 minutes closed in four tracks - no boredom, no fiddling, just a straight punch in the face (although there will be some more melodic and solemn elements in the atmosphere). I can honestly say that it's an awesome material and I highly recommend it.
