Kilka płyt się dzisiaj przewinęło przez odtwarzacz CD i na dłuższą część odsłuchów padło na właśnie ten materiał. Dwa pierwsze dema polskiego BETRAYER to nie lada gratka dla starych fanów zespołu, ale nie tylko dla nich. Jest to też bardzo dobre wydawnictwo pod kątem przypomnienia sobie ewolucji gatunku, jak to brzmiało (pomimo remasteru na potrzeby tego wydawnictwa), a przede wszystkim jak się grało Death Metal w latach 1990 / 1991 na ziemiach polskich. Kolejną zaletą niech będzie też zaprezentowanie tej muzyki młodszemu pokoleniu fanów. Czas na wspominki, zapraszam.
Materiał jaki znalazł się na krążku to zbiór dwóch demówek poprzedzających debiutancki album z 1994 roku, a mianowicie "Calamity" (notabene też wznowiony na CD i winylu przez Thrashing Madness Productions). Na pierwszy ogień ląduje drugie demo "Necromantical Exmortis" prezentujące Death Metal pełną gębą. Sześć kawałków pełnych przemocy i mroku, nawet po latach sprawdza się o wiele bardziej niż obecne produkcje rażące wypolerowanym dźwiękiem. Na uwagę zwracają aranżacje utworów, które do końca nie zostały pozbawione thrashowych korzeni. Jednakże, pasja jaką ta muzyka po tylu latach bezpośrednio uderza jest niezaprzeczalna, a co za tym idzie, nie ma najmniejszej mowy by te elementy jakoś zakłócały Death Metalową ucztę. Cholera, naprawdę świetnie się tego słucha, a przyznaje się, że tych demosów nie słuchałem z dobrych 10 lat! Prędkości w jakich BETRAYER się raczył poruszać były blastujące, ale nie brakło zwolnień czy średnich temp. W riffy gitar - w dużej ilości opierających się pracy tremolo - wpleciono sporo techniki, a solówki są kurewsko dzikie i bije z nich jakaś naturalna złowrogość. Sporą zaletą tego materiału są wokale Beriala, absolutne mistrzostwo emanujące Złem! Fukkkkkkkk!!! Że to tak po latach robi!!!
Drugim demem jakie znalazło się na tej składance jest pierwszy demos hordy "Forbidden Personality", jeszcze bez Beriala w składzie. Wtedy to wokalami zajmował się perkusista Molly, znany przecież także z genialnego Mortify czy pierwszej demówki technicznego grzania Condemnation. Pomijając przepaść stylistyczną pomiędzy dwoma taśmami demo, podobna sytuacja miała miejsce z wokalami. Molly operował bardziej krzykliwym głosem, który mógłby nawet się wpasować od biedy w Black Metalowe klimaty. Muzyka jaką otrzymaliśmy na "Forbidden Personality" to Thrash Metal, który powoli aspirował do Death Metalu. Sporo tu prostego rytmicznego grania, nieco piskliwych i czasem koślawych solówek bardzo mocno wysuniętych na przody, ale i tak jest nieźle. Przede wszystkim słychać tu spore inspiracje wczesnym Kreator i już ten fakt robi dużo dobrego, hehe. Jak wspomniałem jest prosto, ale już w tych dźwiękach słychać drzemiące demony, które przebudziły się już w pełni na "Neconomical Exmortis". Dla przykładu utwór "Soothsay Death" kosi prędkością i przewodnim riffem w którym aż kipi od nienawiści i po prostu Death Metalu. Zresztą, przypomnijcie sobie te dema i osądźcie sami czy wczesna twórczość BETRAYER przetrwała próbę czasu. Według mnie zdecydowanie tak.

I've played a few CDs on my CD player today and for a longer part of the listening I've fallen on this very material. The first two demos of Polish BETRAYER are a real treat for old fans of the band, but not only for them. It is also a very good release to remind yourself of the evolution of the genre, how it sounded (despite the re-mastering for the purposes of this release), and above all, how Death Metal was played in 1990 / 1991 in Poland. Another advantage is that this music can be presented to a younger generation of fans. Time for recollection, I would like to invite you to it.
The material on the album is a collection of two demos preceding the debut album from 1994, namely "Calamity" (incidentally also reissued on CD and vinyl by Thrashing Madness Productions). First up is the second demo "Necromantical Exmortis" presenting Death Metal at its best. Six tracks full of violence and darkness, even after years work much better than current productions glaring with polished sound. What draws your attention are the arrangements of the tracks, which are not completely deprived of thrash roots. However, the passion with which this music directly strikes after so many years is undeniable, and therefore there is no way that these elements would somehow interfere with the Death Metal feast. Damn, it's really great to listen to, and I admit I haven't listened to those demos for a good 10 years! The speeds at which BETRAYER deigned to move were blasting, but there was no lack of slowdowns or medium tempos. There was a lot of technique woven into the guitar riffs, many of which rely on tremolo work, and the solos are fucking wild and have a natural sinister feel to them. A big advantage of this material are Berial's vocals, absolute mastery emanating with Evil! Fukkkkkkkkkk!!! It still kills after all these years!!!
The second demo on this compilation is the first horde demo "Forbidden Personality", without Berial yet. At that time the vocals were taken care of by drummer Molly, known after all also from the brilliant Mortify or the first demo of technical beating in Condemnation. Apart from the stylistic gap between the two demo tapes, a similar situation took place with the vocals. Molly's vocals were more screaming and could even be used in Black Metal. The music we got on "Forbidden Personality" is Thrash Metal, which slowly aspired to Death Metal. There's a lot of simple rhythmic playing here, a bit of high-pitched and sometimes lame solos, but it's not bad anyway. Above all, one can hear here a lot of early Kreator inspirations and this fact already does a lot of good, hehe. As I mentioned it's simple, but already in these sounds you can hear the dormant demons, which fully awoke on "Neconomical Exmortis". For example the track "Soothsay Death" strikes with its speed and main riff which is full of hatred and simply Death Metal. Anyway, recall these demos and judge for yourselves whether the early BETRAYER's work stood the test of time. In my opinion definitely yes.
