Tym razem przenosimy się do Australii i oto mamy debiutanta z 2020 roku. Różnica jednak jest tu następująca - INTELLECT DEVOURER powstał w 1992 roku. W tamtym czasie nagrano singla i jedno demo po czym zespół się rozpadł, a muzycy utworzyli StarGazer. Jednakże, zespół powraca w 1999 roku, nagrywa demo i ponownie kończy działalność w 2001 roku. Na tym jednak nie koniec. INTELLECT DEVOURER ponownie wraca zza grobu, tym razem w 2012 i efektem jest właśnie debiutancki album po ośmiu latach. Zawartość pełniaka "Demons of the Skull" zaintrygowała mnie na tyle, że musiałem opisać ten materiał.
Dziewięć utworów i niecałe trzydzieści minut absolutnie niepretensjonalnego Death Metalu, kipiącego żywiołowością i dobrym smakiem. A co można rozumieć przez dobry smak w Death Metalu? Ano chociażby brak plastiku, triggerowanej produkcji i ogólnie więcej komputerowych zabiegów niż samej muzyki. INTELLECT DEVOURER wrzuca nas w wir atmosfery początków Morbid Angel, Death z czasów "Leprosy" i pozwala na całkiem miłe skojarzenia jak chociażby początkiem w "Sorrow Incarnate" do "Ruptured in Purulence" autorstwa Carcass. I o ile Australijczykom daleko do krwawego show w stylu niskobudżetowego filmu grozy klasy B, tak jak najbardziej można ich nazwać piewcami Old School Death Metalu. Sporo czasu minęło od pierwszego singla jaki wydali w 1993 roku, ale panowie nadal pozostali wierni swoim korzeniom. Pewnie, muzyka jaką tu otrzymamy jest rozwinięciem tematu klasycznego grania, jednak mimo tego jej korzenie tkwią głęboko w tejże stylistyce, nienaruszone. Szybkości w jakich porusza się INTELLECT DEVOURER są zróżnicowane i znajdziemy tu wszystko - od obłędnych prędkości po walcowane zwolnienia. W tej materii naprawdę sporo się dzieje i przyznaję, że aranżacje są arcyciekawie poukładane. Sporo tu również techniki, ale dalekiej w trudności przyswajania. Riffy są mirażem pomiędzy rytmiką a dawką chorej melodyki - efekt przepotężny! Bardzo dużo pojawia się solówek, ale ani trochę nie męczą - wręcz przeciwnie! Z każdym odsłuchem wyłapuje się kolejny smaczek. Gitara basowa bardzo dobrze słyszalna, a momenty gdy zostaje wypuszczona jako jedyny wybrzmiewający instrument, po prostu miazga! Wokalnie mamy tu growling pełną mocą, ale są też pochodne w tej barwie głosu przechodzące w obłąkane krzyki. Cholera, tego można słuchać cały dzień i się nie znudzi, nie ma prawa! This time we move to Australia and here we have the 2020 debutant. However, the difference is as follows - INTELLECT DEVOURER was formed in 1992. At that time, a single and one demo were recorded, after which the band broke up and the musicians formed StarGazer. However, the band came back in 1999, recorded a demo and disbanded again in 2001. But that's not the end of the story. INTELLECT DEVOURER returns from beyond the grave again, this time in 2012 and the result is their debut album after eight years. The contents of the full-length "Demons of the Skull" intrigued me so much that I had to describe this one.
Nine tracks and less than 30 minutes of absolutely unpretentious Death Metal, brimming with spontaneity and good taste. And what can be understood by good taste in Death Metal? Well, for example the lack of plastic, triggered production and in general more computer stuff than music itself. INTELLECT DEVOURER throws us into the atmosphere of the beginning of Morbid Angel, Death from the times of "Leprosy" and allows for quite nice associations such as the beginning in "Sorrow Incarnate" to "Ruptured in Purulence" by Carcass. And while the Australians are far from a bloody show in the style of a low-budget B-grade horror film, they can most certainly be called the purveyors of Old School Death Metal. A lot of time has passed since the first single they released in 1993, but the gents have still remained faithful to their roots. Sure, the music we get here is an extension of the classic theme, but still, its roots are deep in that style, unabated. The speeds in which INTELLECT DEVOURER moves are varied and we can find here everything from insane speeds to rolling slowdowns. There's a lot going on in this matter and I admit that the arrangements are very interestingly arranged. There's also a lot of technique here, but it's far from being difficult to grasp. Riffs are a mirage between rhythmics and a dose of sick melodics - a powerful effect! A lot of solos appear, but they don't tire you a bit - on the contrary! With every listening you catch another flavor. Bass guitar is very well audible, and the moments when it is released as the only sounding instrument, simply stunning! Vocally we have here the growling with full power, but there are also derivatives in this timbre of voice passing into insane screams. Damn, you can listen to this all day long and you won't get bored, it has no right to do that! I recommend getting it, it's worth it!
